SOCIAL MEDIA

There's nothing better than a good Instagram post, right?

BRINGING THE MEMES TO THE BRAND

When I first started working on social media for Plato's Closet, I knew I wanted to boost their engagement, so I spent a few days brainstorming. When I saw a meme of Joe from Netflix's "You" going viral, I decided to put a spin on it. With permission from my managers, we even made it into a coupon promotion. This post made the instagram jump from the usual 25 likes to 83.

PEOPLE LIKE PEOPLE

The first thing I noticed when I started to help with Plato's Instagram was their lack of humans on the feed. It's important to have people in the photos you take, because they gain more attention that way. Humans love seeing what other humans are wearing, doing, drinking, etc. But they don't just want to see it. They want to see it in action. So, I started adding more of our staff onto the Instagram, and saw the posts begin to increase in engagement.

PART TWO

Like I said before, people love people, which was the concept behind this idea. I told one of my coworkers to come to work in an outfit they loved, and then I chose items we had in the store that looked similar. The idea behind this was that if people had seen her in the store before and liked her outfits, or saw this post and liked her outfit, they'd know they could come in to find something similar.

CAPTION IS KEY

Posts of things laid out by themselves don't tend to do as well on the feed, as you can see by this one's 20 likes. But product placement and caption are key to posts like this, which is why I tried to keep the caption for this one short and light, while also adding a pop of color that may make someone hesitate, and maybe even stop, while scrolling. One of the things I try to do to boost engagement is ask a question in the caption with the hopes that someone will reply.

ASK QUESTIONS TO GET ANSWERS

While working for the Actors Centre in London, we began a segment on Twitter called "question time." The idea behind this was to get people to answer and boost our online engagement.

INSPIRE THE AUDIENCE

For the Actors Centre, we did a lot of posts with motivational quotes. The reason behind this was because if someone were scrolling and saw a motivational quote posted by the organization, they may think of the Actors Centre as something positive, and would be more inclined to want to take an acting class there.

UTILIZE THE @ BUTTON

Any time I'm posting something about someone and they have an account on the website I'm posting on, they get tagged. Full stop. The @ button is an important one!
